Adding SuperAIO to Easy2Boot USB Drive

$
0
0

Hey Guys -

Recently purchased a new 128gb USB 3.0 flash drive to carry on my keychain to replace my old one used to contain many utilities via Easy2Boot.

One ISO I frequently use is one I haven't ever gotten to work with Easy2Boot so thought I'd post. It's a Windows "SuperAIO v7" which allows you to install 138 different Windows installations and MS boot utilities.  Unlike prior SuperAIO versions, it doesn't boot to the standard WinPE GUI setup, but boots to a text-based WinPE where you make choices and initiate installation via text prompts.

Right now, I'm trying with the latest versions of the tools to create a  .imgPTN file to see if it works as I haven't tried that before.  As it weighs in at 30+gb, unfortunatly testing different methods isn't the fastest thing.  Still trying to figure out if I drag the ISO to the desktop icon to create the file from a copy on the ISO on target flash drive or on HDD.

Any suggestions for how best to implement this ISO?

Thanks

NotifyChangeDirectory without Explorer Shell

$

Hey all. I want to be able to get autorefresh working when Explorer shell isn't running.

Basically, if File Explorer is running without its shell - or using another app such as FreeCommander - and you perform a file operation, the directory won't change until you hit refresh. At present, Multicommander seems to be the only file browser that supports autorefresh in WinPE in absence of Explorer shell.

When Explorer shell is loaded and you open a File Explorer window, as some of you may know, there are two separate Explorer processes running - the one behind the shell and the Explorer window itself. If you create a new directory, the Explorer behind the shell makes the NotifyChangeDirectory call - not the file browser window. This means that if shell is not running, Explorer cannot refresh itself (if that makes sense?)

Interestingly, even if Explorer shell is not running, MultiCommander appears to create its own NotifyChangeDirectory call - regardless of whether the operation was performed in MultiCommander or in an Explorer window. This is presumably why it works properly in absence of Explorer shell.

My question - does anyone know of a way that I could force a NotifyChangeDirectory call onto other applications such as Explorer in absence of explorer shell? I imagine there is a way, maybe with a bit of programming, but I don't understand the process well enough.

Cheers

grub4dos 0.4.6a supports large fonts

$

Recent versions support larger fonts than the standard 8 pixel high fonts.

I have found two 24-pixel high hex font files on the grub4dos forum and added these to the latest version of Easy2Boot v1.78 Beta.

font --font-high=24 /sft.hex

The problem is that this only has ASCII characters 0020 to 007F, a few characters between 0080 and 00FF and then a large number of Chinese glyphs (sft.hex and yxt.hex).

So at the moment, it does not support European and other languages that use characters with accents, sedillas, etc. - we just get a space character instead!

I have Googled until my Fu has burst, but can't find a fuller set of 24 pixel height fonts in hex format (or binary) or any clue on how to easily make them - any help appreciated....

Ram upgrade but BIOS detects less than advertised

someone gave me a core2 duo laptop that only had 512mb RAM installed but manufacturer indicates that it is upgradable to 4GB.

it is DDR2 and takes 2x2gb so I bought a kit off amazon. its Corsair brand or at least thats what the package indicates and it is a sealed package that appears authentic but after i installed it the bios only detects 3328mb upon boot up self test.

windows BGInfo and coolmon both show it on the desktop as 3328mb also however all the system spec tools ive run that just list various specs all say its 2x2gb 667mhz as advertised.

did a search on this particular laptop to see if it was a common issue and found nothing.

the laptop needed a bios upgrade too so I did that prior to installing the RAM.

is fake RAM an issue these days? I dont have any other compatible hardware that I can put it into to see if it gives the same result. any other way to test it? I'd like to verify that it is not the laptop causing the issue before I go about returning the RAM.

all the older version of the BIOS firmware are still available, maybe I should revert back to an older version just to see if that makes any difference?

what would you do in this situation? any tools available specifically for testing this kinda thing?

thanks

And soft was successfuly copied. Image size was don't increased. Where is data after 75 Mb? Is it writed to host FS contained FAT32 or just ignored by ImDisk driver?

Hello! To put a long story short, I have a laptop with dead HDD and I want to try it running from my usb flash drive.
I have read in this forum that it is possible to install Windows XP on USB flash drive, and I have searched all over Google, but every solution is terribly hard or takes a long time to put it to work.
So I wanted to ask, what is the easiest way to install Win XP on USB Flash?

My USB flash is 16GB, USB 2.0, and laptop has 512mb ram.
Thanks in advance.

ImDisk accessing remote volume with SystemRescueCd/DevIo

$

I booted a Windows 7 machine via SystemRescueCd 4.8.1.  I was interested accessing my data volume remotely from my laptop with ImDisk 2.0.9 using DevIo 3.04.  Here are some details about the volume on the disk I want to access:

root@sysresccd /mnt/stuff % fdisk -l /dev/sdb
Disk /dev/sdb: 7.3 TiB, 7988628684800 bytes, 15602790400 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: gpt
Disk identifier: D05A6B72-771C-4272-9464-5C7D1F96BD8C

Device      Start         End     Sectors  Size Type
/dev/sdb1      34      262177      262144  128M Microsoft reserved
/dev/sdb2  264192 15602788351 15602524160  7.3T Microsoft basic data
root@sysresccd /mnt/dpl8419g %

So, I tried getting DevIo going.  This seemed like a suitable command:

root@sysresccd /tmp % ./devio_Linux_i686 -r 666 /dev/sdb2 15602524160 0 1 2091752
Successfully opened '/dev/sdb2'.
Image size used: 7988492369920 bytes.
Total size: -146800640 bytes. Using 7988492369920 bytes from offset 0.
Required alignment: 1 bytes.
Buffer size: 2091752 bytes.
Waiting for connection on port 666. Press Ctrl+C to cancel.

Then on my laptop I tried to start ImDisk:

C:\>imdisk -a -t proxy -o ip -f 10.0.194.101:666 -m Z:
Creating device...
Created device 1: Z: -> 10.0.194.101:666
Notifying applications...
Done.

And before I knew it, I got this output from DevIo:

Got connection from 10.0.194.19:51062.
Connection closed.
Image close result: 0

I also tried starting DevIo like this:

root@sysresccd /tmp % ./devio_Linux_i686 -r 666 /dev/sdb 15602524160 264192 1 2097152
Successfully opened '/dev/sdb'.
Image size used: 7988492369920 bytes.
Total size: -146800640 bytes. Using 7988492369920 bytes from offset 135266304.
Required alignment: 1 bytes.
Buffer size: 2097152 bytes.
Waiting for connection on port 666. Press Ctrl+C to cancel.

But once again, as soon as I started ImDisk, the result was the same.

What am I doing wrong?  The negative "total size" value definitely seems odd.

Thanks.

Create OEM ISO

You can download a 7/8.1/10 ISO from Microsoft using this tool: http://www.msfn.org/2016/09/25/microsoft-windows-office-iso-download-tool-4-00/

Later you can add all required files/folders to make that ISO or USB good for all OEM brands using the tool Project Only - No Query Tool [29.70 MB] from the links in this page: http://pasted.co/de1acca8 read text files inside the download, it is pretty clear.

Source: https://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/71555-Multi-OEM-Retail-Project-Continued

NOTE: This is only good for OEM machines, this DO NOT activate the OS unless there is the required Slic or Serial in your Bios (from OEM manufacturer), so make sure you download the proper OS, for your machine, you can download Query Tool Only [109.82 KB] in advance to check wich OS is good for your equipment. Some AV claim this one is malware but IT IS NOT, false positive.

VHD_W7_Compact - Program to make Mini 7

Download and Run VHD_W7C.exe and Extract to simple path

In Win 7/8 OS Set User Account Control Off and Reboot

VHD_W7_Compact.exe - Make Portable W7 in 2 GB VHD booting from USB or HDD
x64 version needs 3 GB VHD because of extra 1 GB SysWOW64 folder

Source is Windows 7 x86 or x64 fresh installed in 10-15 GB VHD Or Install on primary active partition of internal harddisk.
Target Boot Drive can be FAT32 or NTFS USB-drive used only for Boot files so that there are no changes for booting of internal harrddisk .
Target System Drive must be NTFS and is the drive where the Win7 VHD file is created and this can be your internal harddisk drive.

Ultimate Windows 7 VHD files make use of Microsoft VHD HBA driver which allows in Boot Manager Menu to boot VHD as FILEDISK.
Booting VHD files from Grub4dos Menu as FILEDISK or as RAMDISK requires to Install in Source VHD either FiraDisk Or WinVBlock driver.
Additinally Installed Programs and Drivers and Settings are remembered in FILEDISK just like in normal Windows OS.
Loading the VHD into RAMDISK is much faster when the VHD file is located on the internal NTFS harddisk drive.

Add Drivers from makebt\drivers to system32\DriverStore\FileRepository is applied for Portable version by using Dism.exe
Run first VHD_W7C_drivers.exe plugin to add useful extra drivers to makebt\drivers folder.
Download VHD_W7C_drivers from http://reboot.pro/files/file/322-vhd-w7c-driversexe-plugin/

Let Portable version boot on different hardware to make it Universal by Install of Drivers.
Use Universal Portable W7 VHD as Source to make Mini 7 VHD that can boot in any case on all experienced hardware.
Mini 7 has smallest Size of about 600 MB by removing Windows Media Player and by further reduction of system32 and DriverStore.
Mini 7 is very useful to Boot from RAMDISK on known hardware, since servicing for Adding Driver Packages has also been removed.

Build-in Defraggler is useful (really needed) to Defrag files within the W7 VHD, but post processing is also possible after mounting the W7 VHD.
NTFS Compression results in high fragmentation e.g. 85% so that it is advised to use Defrag VHD option.

VHD_W7_Compact.exe can create Boot Menu entry on HDD or USB Boot Drive for the Win7 VHD on NTFS Target System Drive.
VHD entry is added to Boot Manager Menu and Grub4dos Menu is made when FiraDisk or WinVBlock driver is found.

VHD filename W732USP1.vhd contains Architecture 64/32 + Distribution Language + Version P/M/C + Number 1-9

Program UEFI_MULTI can be used in Win 7/8/7PE OS to make other HDD or USB drives bootable with the created Win 7 VHD.

BOOT_IMG.exe makes Grub4dos Boot Menu on Target Boot Drive for VHD on NTFS Target System Drive (FileCopy of VHD occurs if not yet present)

================================================================================

Windows 7 Source VHD preparation

Boot with Windows 7/8 or 7/8 PE and then use WinNTSetup3
to Install Windows 7 x86 or x64 in NTFS 10-15 GB VHD or to Install on primary NTFS partition of internal harddisk
Boot Drive can be FAT32 or NTFS USB-drive so that normal booting of the internal harddisk is not changed.

Win 7 Setup ISO file was mounted via R-mouse in ImDisk Virtual drive
In WinNTSetup3 - Tweaks - Select all System Tweaks so that UAC is off etc.
http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/149612-winntsetup-

After booting with Windows 7 then Check to have Switched Off :
UAC + Defender + pagefile + System Restore + Hibernate + Windows Update + Action Center settings Disable ALL options
Hibernate OFF is needed via cmd window with

powercfg -h OFF

Install FiraDisk driver with R-mouse on firadisk.inf in makebt\firadisk-driver- folder
The 64-bit FiraDisk driver requires to boot with testsigning switched on

Open Command Prompt as Administrator:

bcdedit /set testsigning on

Reboot to activate testsigning - Info http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff553484.aspx

Creating a tiny x86 bootloader

Good tutorial, explains in a really simply manner how to write the initial instructions of a boot loader.

bochs.png

We'll eschew the discussion of the intricacies of how the BIOS works, but here's what you need to know. When you turn your computer on, the processor immediately looks at physical address 0xFFFFFFF0 for the BIOS code, which is generally on some read-only piece of ROM somewhere in your computer. The BIOS then POSTs, and searches for acceptable boot media. The BIOS accepts some medium as an acceptable boot device if its boot sector, the first 512 bytes of the disk are readable and end in the exact bytes 0x55AA, which constitutes the boot signature for the medium. If the BIOS deems some drive bootable, then it loads the first 512 bytes of the drive into memory address 0x007C00, and transfers program control to this address with a jump instruction to the processor.

I've an automated script to create partitions in diskpart.

The main problem it's that sometimes the WinPE doesn't show the physical disk (sometimes is damage) and when the script run it clear the disk 0, and in that case is the USB disk and i lose everything.

Is there any way to use diskpart only with physical disks?

Thanks

Hello Guys

I bought a cheap pendrive from amazon with the intention to flash the firmware new and make it a so called "fixed-disk", so that multiple partitions are possible.

The pendrive is an "Intenso Rainbow Line 16GB", Link on amazon : https://www.amazon.de/dp/B001G4QKCG

Unfortunelately they did something to the controller chip because chipgenius is giving me this report :

Description: [E:]USB-Massenspeichergerät(Intenso Rainbow Line)

Device Type:        Mass Storage Device

Protocal Version: USB 2.00
Current Speed: High Speed
Max Current: 200mA

USB Device ID: VID = 058F PID = 6387
Serial Number: 7F9872F0

Device Vendor: 6989
Device Name: Intenso Rainbow Line
Device Revision: 0100

Manufacturer: Intenso
Product Model: Rainbow Line
Product Revision: 8.07

Controller Vendor: Alcor Micro
Controller Part-Number: Unknown [F500] - F/W FA00
Flash ID code:      8984643C - Intel PF29F16B08LCMFS - 1CE/Single Channel [MLC-16K] -> Total Capacity = 16GB

As you can see, the controller chip is "unknown". So I opened the drive and I found the following chip name : IDE 5019SN-GTC

I downloaded the AlcorMP tool but none of this tools recognise my chipset.

Can someone please help me?
