Acronis True Image Home 2012

As I did not find a script for adding Acronis True Image 2012 Home to Win7PE_SE I used the old script by "dera" I found in my archive and updated it.

Some code may be unnecessary and some further clean-up of the script would be good - but it works and this is the most important fact from my point of view.

It uses the BartPE plugin that can be downloaded from Acronis after registering.
Download and install the BartPE plugin and afterwards extract the WinPE.zip to a temporary directory. Select that path in the GUI of the script.

Tested with Win7PE_SE_20120416 on a Win7PE with Win7 32bit SP0 CD as source.

PassPass - Bypass the Password

Meet PassPass (Bypass the Password), a nifty Grub4DOS batch script to disable/re-enable Windows logon password validation. The latest version supports both 32-bit as well as 64-bit versions of Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1. Credit (as well as dis-credit) is to be equally shared between Wonko the Sane and Holmes.Sherlock for the idea and coding respectively. We appreciate any success/failure report mentioning the following:

  • Windows version (e.g. XP, Vista, 7)
  • Service pack (e.g. SP0, SP1)
  • Architecture (e.g. 32-bit/64-bit)
  • msv1_0.dll version (e.g. 6.1.7600.16525) along with MD5 checksum, if possible

Technical Details: The script tries to locate all existing Windows installations and corresponding Windows editions as well. Thereafter, it replaces the CMP instruction responsible for password verification with a 'benign' sequence of bytes. For reverting back the changes, the process is just the opposite. The whole idea is derived from WindowsGate and Astr0baby's tutorial.

Usage:

  • Install Grub4DOS. You may prefer using RMPrepUSB. Script tested with Grub4DOS v0.4.5c-2013-03-03.
  • Download grubutils and copy WENV binary on the root of the boot media. Script tested with grubutils-2011-06-27.
  • Copy PassPass, PassPass.bak and menu.lst on the root of the boot volume.
  • Boot
  • Ideally 'Autodetect' mode should be able to list out all existing Windows installation. For buggy BIOS-es, try appropriate <Disk#> and <Partition#> to 'Forcedetect' Windows installations.
  • Choose either 'Patch' or 'Unpatch' respectively for disabling/re-enabling password verification.
  • Reboot and boot into target Windows.

Beta Testing:

  1. Download latest version of the script.
  2. Backup /<Windows directory>/system32/msv1_0.dll of target installation.
  3. Patch it.
  4. Test whether the patch is working by being able to log on with arbitrary password.
  5. Note MD5 checksum of the DLL.
  6. Unpatch it.
  7. Test whether whether unpatch is working by being not able to log in with all but correct password.
  8. Note MD5 checksum of the DLL.
  9. Compare the MD5 hashes.
  10. Success is defined by the patch working at step #4, unpatch working at step #6 and hashes matching at step #9.
  11. Report success/failure in the format mentioned above.

ImDisk DOS shows ImDisk0, Windows is empty

I am trying to uninstall ImDisk. This however fails because ImDisk keeps ImDisk0 loaded. In DOS "imdisk -l" does show \Device\ImDisk0. But when launching the Windows ImDisk interface, there is nothing in the list.

How do I remove this unwanted ImDisk0?

Mounting large image file in ramdisk. When can we know when the drive is ready?

$

Hi,

First, I would like to say that Imdisk is an awesome tool and I use it every day. Thanks!

Second, my problem :) I have actually two problems. I'm using Windows 7.
I have a script to mount a ramdisk with a 4gb disk image file

 imdisk -a -t vm -f file.img -m Z:

The script is running fast but in fact the mounting process (and copying I guess) is not finished and the drive is not accessible on windows. I have to wait around 5 minutes to access it (which is normal because you have to read/copy 4gb in the RAm). In my script I would like to use the drive Z: after the mounting but I can't because Imdisk is releasing before the drive is ready.
So I was wondering if there is a way to know when the drive is ready in command-line or force imdisk to wait until the drive is ready ?

My second problem has been already raised in the forum but I didn't find the right answer. I never manage to unmount a drive without using -D option.
I mount my image using:

    imdisk -a -f file.img -m Z:

and if I unmount (with administrator privilege) using:

    imdisk -d -m Z:

I always get "Z: access is denied".
I checked with handle.exe and process explorer but couldn't find any locked files.
With:

    handle.exe -a | find "Z:"

I get the following answer:
 BDC: File <--->   Z:\
15F8: File <--->   Z:\

I don't know what is it.

and FYI, I have no antivirus and I use truecrypt for other drives (don't know if it could interfere?).

If someone has any tips it would be great :D Thanks!

ImDisk & Win10 b10565/10576 : error defining letter drive

$

Hello,

I'm trying to create multi-boot external hard drive with easy2boot.

Some part of the tutorial to add Openelec Installer to easy2boot involves imdisk, but this is not working on my system , here the contents of  the dos box :

Running: imdisk -a -s 255m -m U: -f "c:\temp\essai.imgPTN" -x 63 -y 255 -p "/FS:FAT32 /Q /Y"
Error defining drive letter: Descripteur non valide
Creating device...
Created device 0: U: -> c:\temp\essai.imgPTN
ImDisk operation failed to mount "c:\temp\essai.imgPTN"
Appuyez sur une touche pour continuer...

So, imdisk seems unable to create letter drive U:

If i type
subst u: c:\
U: is defined, and
subst u: /d
u: did not exist. So i'm sure U: is not defined when imdisk try to define it.

I try everything i could : stop A/V, disable UAC, permission everyone/eveything, then type the same command in an admin dos box : same error.

The error appears again if i right click on a drive and choose "Save disk contents in image file".

If i try to create it with control panel, i can, U: is created, Windows says it needs to be formatted. But when i want to remove it imdisk says "cannot lock the device. The device may be used by another process or you may not have permission to lock it.". I click ok and i can remove it.

My system is Windows 10 x64, b10565 & b10576, 16GB RAM, 128GB System + 2 TB +2TB external (Easy2Boot prepared) +1 TB HDD + many drives from USB card reader. imdisk V2.0.6, tried imdisk V1.9.4 whith same result.

Any idea ?

Grub4dos/DOS batchfile help

Hi guys, long time.

I need help with 2 batch files.

End result, desired result:

Dos: seek files of one type and >> to a:\files.txt

Desired: check drive o: (Cdrom) first, then go through possible drives.

I know there is a for /f tokens ( a b c etc) involved,

but I have never been too good with complex batches.

Grub4dos:

A-la copyff.g4b (Steve and Chenall), and fnidfile.g4b (Steve).

Result: copy files of one type to a grub4dos ramdrive (fd1).

I need to look back at findfile.g4b, and see how to adapt it to copyff.

Thanks.

I am not in a hurry though, and mightn't be online.

Cheers

ImDisk Toolkit

This thread is dedicated to the ImDisk Toolkit. This all-in-one package gathers several tools to let you mount many formats of image files and making a ramdisk with only a few clicks.

This includes the ImDisk Virtual Disk Driver, the DiscUtils library for managing the formats of image files like VHD, VDI, VMDK, etc., the RamDisk Configuration Tool (RamDiskUI), and some new GUI to use the capabilities of DiscUtils directly from Explorer and add some features.

Please note that RamDiskUI is no longer available alone, but can be used exactly like before. It has no dependency (except, of course, the ImDisk Virtual Disk Driver) and uses the same parameters than the previous versions.

You can download the installer of the ImDisk Toolkit and the sources here:

[Win7PE_SE] Help with unpack command inside script

$

Hello folks,

I am building my first script to myself and the Reboot.pro community. So, I faced a problem. Here is what I want to do:

I want to extract the contents of File.7z inside the folder Files attached to my script into a folder directly without creating a MyProgram (%ProgramFolder%) inside the destination folder. For this I have used the following line:

Unpack,Files,File.7z,,%pFileBox1%,,,

Where %pFileBox1% is the destination folder chosen by user in the appropriate file box. The problem is that this line always create a folder named MyProgram inside the destination folder.

I just need the files inside the File.7z inside the destination folder not another folder with the Files.7z contents. I hope you can help me here.

Best regards,

Aeolis

Linux from VHD How To?

Hi @ll.

Antecipated excuses if what I'm about to post is poorly worded, has already been answered or is in any other way inappropriate for the forum.

My question is simple: is there a known recipe to make any Linux flavor boot up from a VHD virtual disk image file?

Some context for this query has already been posted to UbuntuForums, but unfortunately the thread was closed before it got any relevant answers.

Notwithstanding, I just found a personal message containing encouraging info which I'll just transcribe here:

LINUX-VHD for UBUNTU, ARCH, Fedora, OpenSuse, Mageia. (Chinese)

\[WUBI\] KLOOP: boot UBUNTU from img and vhd
http://newscentral.exsees.com/item/a46992226f192c4b3769c62900455d3d-091e70613bc596ffb78691a65750d9f8

Hi, Everyone.

KLOOP is a new method to boot UBUNTU (Fedora, ARCH, OpenSuse, Mageia) from fixed img and fixed vhd.

It is based on the command 'kpartx' and using loop device as /, so I named it KLOOP (Kpartx+LOOP).

If you want to try it, click on the following :
http://pan.baidu.com/s/1bnnjBXX

download and decompress the file 'mydracut-English.zip', and read the file 'mydracut/ubuntu-kloop/readme-KLOOP-UBUNTU.txt' or 'mydracut/fedora-kloop/readme-KLOOP-FEDORA.txt'.[/font]

Sadly, the Baidu link doesn't have the English zip file available for download anymore, only a 'mydracut.zip' with Chinese instructions too complex for my extremely limited linguistic and computational capabilities; so I decided to post it here, where it is bound to at least stir some interest, in order to avoid a possible good solution going to waste....

Any help, info and/or links highly appreciated.

Grub4dos Freedos emm386 (fd1)

Hi,

I am having a prob with emm386.exe and a grub4dos memory mapped additional (fd1).

Freedos boots from memory mapped (fd0).

If without emm386.exe, just Himemx.exe, b:\ is seen.

If with emm386.exe, a:\>dir b:, reboots.

My menu.lst

title map freedos (fd0), image (fd1)
map --mem /freedos.ima (fd0)
map --hook
map --mem /image.ima.gz (fd1)
map --hook
root (fd0)
chainloader (fd0)/kernel.sys
boot

My fdconfig.sys

;!SWITCHES=/E
!SWITCHES=/N
MENU 0. FreeDOS Himemx Xgcdrom
MENU 1. FreeDOS emm386.exe

!DOSDATA=UMB
!DOS=HIGH,UMB
!FILES=20
!BUFFERS=20
!LASTDRIVE=z
!shell=a:\COMMAND.COM

What would a better way be?

Other issue, unrelated,

Loading of aspi.sys for Cdrtools from http://sobek.su/Docs/bcdw/index_e.htm .

(Atapi version) during fdconfig.sys boot, on a Cdrom-less notebook.

I want to keep the cdrom menu-item available (rather than have another menu item), and ignored by the system if no CDrom drive present. XGcdrom does that (maybe helped by shsucdx.exe with the ? driver option (ignore if not present).

Aspi.sys just crashes (invalid opcode if I remember correctly) on loading.

Any ideas?

Thanks

AutoIT scripts not running correctly in pe.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has come across or experienced a similar issue as to what I am currently encountering in Win8.1PESE. x64 I can run the .au3 script through autoit just fine however if i compile them into an x64 or x32 exe and try to launch them from another application it does not work. The only way I can get the script to function is to open the .au3 with autoitx64.exe or to double click the exe in explorer. Using a program to call the exe runs the exe however it does run correctly.

I originally thought it was a problem with the compiler but that doesn't explain the fact that double clicking the exe in explorer runs it perfectly. I have tested the java application and other autoit script thoroughly and both only have issues launching autoit scripts and its ONLY INSIDE THE WINPE.

Any and all help is appreciated :)

Windows Thin PC - Still Kickin'

$

I've made quite a few images with Thin PC, it's an amazing version of Windows that really shines with the feature set it has out of the box.

This week I tried seeing how small I could get it. My existing images of Thin PC are quite large, with user content and extras ranging in the 40-60GB mark, I use it as a portable OS using VHD boot from my Seagate 7, ideal since I can be anywhere and boot a machine quickly with my apps ready. Plus, if I want to test different versions, with VHD I can add as many entries as I want. (I stick to Microsoft's bootcode, no grub4dos for me)

Using Win Toolkit, I was able to reduce the install footprint of Thin PC to around 2GB. I did this by removing mostly useless legacy drivers (which makes sense since it's a replacement for Windows For Legacy Devices) which included TV Tuners (Seriously?, TV Tuner drivers?), Modems, PCMCIA Drivers etc. I went through and removed tonnes of components. Once complete my lowly E2180 chugged away for about an hour or so and removed all the junk I wouldn't need.

As it stands right now I have a 3GB fixed VHD with about 500MB free, since I installed a few apps for testing. What is interesting, for very basic use, I had it running in VirtualBox with only 512MB of RAM. So it ran "ok" but not great. Keep in mind, my E2180 does not have VT so I'm using a very slow virtualization that only support 32 Bit OS. Later today I'm going to test it on my other laptop from USB and see how it fares.

Thankfully I saved some code from one of the forum threads here when I originally made my Thin PC images, I'll share it here as well since I've tried to find it since but couldn't.

If you want to boot the VHD from USB, you need to change some priorities when it comes to USB loading drivers.

reg.exe add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control /f /v BootDriverFlags /t REG_DWORD /d 0x6
reg.exe add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\PnP /f /v PollBootPartitionTimeout /t REG_DWORD /d 30000

These commands allow some time for USB to be started so Windows doesn't go 7B.

I'm hoping my current test works, as I can use these micro images to be virus scanners. Plus if I work on getting VHD parent/child working, I would never have to redo the image as it would always be reversible.

If I could only get some of the more modern OS like 8 down in size like this one (still working on that) I could have a solution for UEFI. For now I use ODS for that (WinPE build) but it's quickly becoming more difficult to manage as changing tools requires a complete image overhaul, which even though can be scripted is tedious, plus each machine behaves different with PE, weird but true. With Thin PC all I have to do is boot the Master Reference Image, update the tools and image the DOM's (Disk On Module) fresh.

If you have access to VL Agreement Thin PC can help in more ways than you think.

Suggestions for computer with an i7 CPU and RAID0 with SSD?

$

Hello!

I'm building a new computer that needs huge reading speeds. What will be read are large files on disk, 300Gb in disk space.

The bottleneck is how fast we can read from disk, so having an SSD array under RAID0 seems to double the speed of an already fast SSD.

I was looking for a box equipped with an i7 that is compact and supports SSD arrays. Any ideas/suggestions?

Around the web are some addons like this one:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Apricorn-Velocity-Duo-SSD-Upgrade-Kit-and-Disc-Array-for-PC-and-Mac-VEL-DUO-/231750701136?hash=item35f56b1050:g:NZQAAOSw4UtWRNwd

Was trying to find a good balance between:

- price (~300 to ~800 EUR) for computer without SSD

- size, small enough to be carried around to other places

- fast, under this budget what could be faster for generic processing?

Thanks!

Anybody has any idea if there is a better way to deliver bootable .wim to client from SCCM, but WITHOUT using the c***py TFTP that is build in to WDS?

wimboot from http would be perfect (maybe one day in distant future Microsoft does manage to catch up with rest of the world...)
