Request : Download Link to Bare-Metal Versions of Hyper-V Server
As i am not able to find them anywhere anymore , but it is right now far easier to request them here then seeking through a bunch disks ...
: Does anyone know of a valid link to the isos of MicroSoft Hyper-V Bare-Metal Versions ?
: I am not talking about the Server Core Versions i mean the freely distributed no-cost Hyper-V Bare-Metal isos.
THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST .

Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) on x64
the only info I have found is here: http://www.mp3car.com/winnt-based/140081-ewf-on-windows-7-32-bit-or-64-bit-enhanced-write-filter.html
I am trying to adapt that tutorial for using ewf in XPx64 but I need to figure out the partition offset and I do not have diskpar.exe so first question is what other tool is available to determine this partition offset?
ImDskSvc and AWEAlloc start disabled

REQUEST : Thoughts on Partitioning ( Hybrid-MBR / GPT ) - Stacked Partition Grid

Does UEFI booting read the MBR or PBR?
Is there a way with USB Flash drives to automatically use BOOTMGR.EFI if UEFI-booting, otherwise use say grub4dos? I'm trying to make an absurdly compatible Easy2Boot setup where it boots into BOOTMGR by default only if UEFI-booting. Would I need to hack grldr to rename it to "bootmgr" for MBR loading, or can I just leave the Easy2Boot MBR & PBR records and place the necessary EFI files on the root? Not sure if EFI/UEFI even generally looks at the MBR or PBR.
I also want to do this for bootable DVDs too, but I suspect it's some fancy oscdimg command.
grub4dos match 1 partition to another
From title: map*
I have a linux boot environment that is hardcoded to using "partition" 2. I cannot change this environment. I am using grub4dos to boot this environment.
I have made changes to the hard disk, and now the partition that the linux environment uses should be "3".
Is there a way to do the "map (hd0) (hd1)" command, but with partitions? "map (hd0,2) (hd0,3) map (hd0,3) (hd0,2)"?
Is there a way to fake the partition order so that I can re-use the existing bootable linux environment?

Imdisk article: creating 10Gb RAM disks
Hello,
An article reviewing the usage of Imdisk for creating large-sized RAM disks. What I find more interesting is the performance review that they did between performance of file copy under RAID drives, SSD and RAM disks.
You find the article at http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/create-10-gbs-ram-disk-windows/

boot bugs...and a request
i made a win7 x64that is lited to the maxxx
i have few troubles with the boot part .
by now i use a lzma file on the usb , i transfered the file to another stick of 4 Go formated with fat16 , grub find the boot partition on hd[0,3] but does not show the boot menu...
to boot quickly , i made a copy of the lzma file decompressed on the same boot drive as the one having the original vhd .
so this disk use the win7 boot meny , i select grub4dos , it loads the vhd in ram but i got the error c000000d few seconds after win7 boot in texy mode , that error is normally happening with windows update...
is it because i use twice the win7 menu ?
last thing is the idea i had that is close to the dynamic vhd but from the other side....
i mean that i shrinked to the maxxx my win7 x64 so now my vhd is having a size of 5Go with files using 4629/5120 MB so i have 491 MB free ....
i use it to do video capture....but i think that sometimes i would like to install others software for edition ..so comes the size trouble...
as grub4dos check the size of the vhd and consider it as a hdrive , there is the possibility to append a parameter about the size of drive , in my case it would be 6 Go or 7 instead of the defined in the vhd 5 Go ...

best mbr/partition back ups?
I want to add a logical partition with Xpx64 at the end of a 1.5TB USB HDD. has 11 partitions on it now that I spent alot of time to make work because most of the partitions Ive made bootable using PTEdit and adjusting offsets to boot from logical.
before I make any changes to the partition structure I want to make sure I have a solid back-up strategy first since Ive lost work like this in the past by adding to it. one time I had a similar setup and when attempting this same thing (adding a single logical partition at the end) somehow all the partitions in the extended area disappeared!
what tools do I need to use to be able to recover from this if it happens again?
thanks
Grub4Dos problems
Hi, I am having big problems here.
I am on a Windows 7 machine that using Grub4Dos, and I am getting a file not found error :15.
There is no way for me to boot up this machine. I cant use a recovery cd/flash since all my USB ports are 3.0 and Win 7 only supports 2.0. No keyboard and mouse works with win7 in recovery mode. Tried that several of times now.
So, anyone knows how I can manage to boot up the machine from the console?
Or is there another way to recreate MBR?
It is a Win7 installation on mac, using Boot camp.
Best regards, Joakim
error booting XPx64 from extended partition
I am trying to boot XPx64 from an extended partition and get this BSOD error:
STOP: c0000130 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll
I have grub4dos on a USB HDD, primary, ntfs, active partition that is also booting XPsp3x86 directly so I am starting grub4dos from the boot.ini and my menu.lst entry is this:
title XPx64
root (hd0,5)
chainloader /ntldr
I have edited the partition table to allow booting XP from extended partition following this guide: http://www.goodells.net/multiboot/ptable.shtml as suggested on this thread: http://reboot.pro/topic/11054-boot-windows-from-extended-partition/
this works for booting another XPx86 from the extended partition with the exact same set-up including the exact same partition but when I put XPx64 in this same extended partition I get the BSOD.
I am thinking that maybe the chainloader /ntldr command is loading the wrong ntldr (the one that is in the primary partition with XPx86) Im not sure if that is it or something else.
can someone help me resolve this? thanks
NT 6.x fast installer: install win7 directly to usb external drive
As you know, stupid setup.exe for nt 6.x (vista/win7/2008/2008 r2) has many limitations:
1. You can't start install vista/win7 under xp based pe (winpe 1.x) and can't install win7 under win2000
2. You can't install win7 directly to USB hard disk
3. The stupid setup.exe may put the boot files to a wrong drive when you boot winpe with USB device and there is even no way to choose the boot partition

4. When you install win7 from winpe, the drive letter of the OS partition will always be C:, no matter which partition you choose.
On the other hand, the fastest way to install nt 6.x is imagex+bcdboot, e.g
imagex f:\sources\install.wim 5 c: bcdboot c:\windows /s c: bootsect /nt60 c:
And no setup.exe is needed.
Based on this, I wrote an "nt 6.x fast installer" which has the following advatages compare to the original M$ setup.exe:
1. You can install nt 6.x directly from iso file mounted by any kind of virtual drive.
And you needn't extract or burn the iso.
2. You can directly install nt 6.x from any version winpe and win2000 above windows
3. You can install the OS directly onto a USB external hard drive.
And no virtual machine, copy tool or complicated "tutorial" is needed.
4. You can manually choose which partition is the boot partition.
5. You can decide which letter the OS partition will occupy in Win7/2008 R2.
6. The install speed is very fast. With this installer, you can install win7 in 11-12 min for 5400rpm notebook hdd, and in less than 10min for desktop 7200 hdd (vista needs about 2 min more because of the score evaluation)
OK, let's see if some one can help me understand bitcoins

I've read the very basics:
http://atvelu.poster...why-everyone-is
http://barterfanatic...eck-is-bitcoin/
http://www.economist...irtual-currency
http://anisesmith.am...k-is-a-bitcoin/
http://techcrunch.co.../bitcoin-crazy/
http://www.investitwisely.com/bitcoin-the-digital-currency-of-the-future/
I do understand the freedom idea and the no "central control" thingy.
If I get it right, the idea of most peeps to get rich is to "mine" a bitcoin from a mind-bogglingly big set of cryptographic data by bruteforcing calculations and dedicating CPU/GPU power to it.
The only rational explanation I can find (once excluded the nice "basic idea" and the "freedom and no central control" and "bla and bla", that as a "proof of concept" seems nice and interesting to me

What the heck do these guys do?:

The old believe everything; the middle aged suspect everything: the young know everything.
I would be happy

The only (nice) thing that I can remember that seems somehow similar to this is Calvin & Hobbes playing Calvinball:

Other kids' games are all such a bore!
They've gotta have rules and they gotta keep score!
Calvinball is better by far!
It's never the same! It's always bizarre!
You don't need a team or a referee!
You know that it's great, 'cause it's named after me!

Win10 New section
I think it is time to open a new section in forum for Win10, it's not in beta any more.
Also some moderator could move several topics about Win10 (started after RTM) to this new section (when created).
