System Navigator 2014 version 5.0.2.001

Think i found a bug. By default it displays Desktop contents. If you select the icon that displays My Computer- I tries to read the contents on drive A but there is no drive A. Keeps poping an error. Even if you hit Cancel. It tries to keep reading A drive so it keeps locking up.

Tested in Windows XP.

Kernel mutex question

Hello,

I'm new here, I just find ImDisk few minutes ago. Im looking for to write VFS solution for our document DB and

found this thread. I saw that ImDisk to Devio communication use already SHM, so I suppose that you fund solution for robust mutex.

In case of not I probably have possible solution (Im not a kernel expert so it should not function).

I did some tweaks to boost spin mutex, so it become robust.

It spin on uint32 variable that hold owner proccess id.

If some proccess try to take Mutex it check atomicaly this gate variable.

If it holds non 0 value it check procces lock byte . I have one file for about 4MB locks. Position of lock depends on process id. So if checker can lock byte in lock file on proccessid possition => proccess with that ID is gone, so mutex is abandoned.

I'll dig into sources to c how to use ImDisk, I hope that I finally found what I was looking for.

Custom DVD and serial numbers

Hi

I'm creating a custom DVD of Windows 8.1 Update 64 bit and I inserted 4 volume images in the install.wim file. These volume images containing 4 different custom editions of the operating system that they have 4 different serial numbers for their installation.

Now, since I would not insert these serial numbers during the installation, how should I do to save them in the DVD or in their respective volume images so that, during the installation phase, I only need to choose the edition to install?

Thanks

I just added the possibility to automatically use the first unused drive letter even when mounting virtual disks with the command line tool. For this to work, specify #: as drive letter.

Example:
imdisk -a -s 60M -m #:

What is a RYNO? Well, it’s less than a motorcycle (in some ways), but in other ways, it’s so much more. One-wheeled, electric-powered. A machine that has no greater footprint than you do. Capable of operating at speeds up to 10 miles per hour – or as slowly as a casual stroll. The RYNO is transportation, humanized. PEPassPass

$
0
0
PEPassPass is developed from Holmes.Sherlock's PassPass (Bypass the Password)
PassPass is a nifty Grub4DOS (BIOS) batch script to disable/re-enable Windows logon password validation.

PEPassPass is an AutoIt executable to disable/re-enable Windows logon password validation, too.
It is intended to be run from either Windows PE or from a second NT installation, if any, to patch the first one.
A possible use case is systems equipped with UEFI where Grub4DOS may fail to boot.
For such systems, one needs to boot either Grub4DOS, hence PassPass in Legacy/BIOS compatible mode, or Windows PE/second NT installation to boot PEPassPass from.

In short, an addition to the original PassPass, really much faster if Grub4Dos is available.
1.boot to grub4dos, 2.patch the file, 3.continue booting your patched Windows OS.
PEPassPass is able to patch Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

PEPassPass.jpg
WinLogon.jpg

Technical Details:
The script tries to locate all existing Windows installations and corresponding Windows editions as well.
Thereafter, after changing permissions, it replaces the CMP instruction responsible for password verification with a 'benign' sequence of bytes.
For reverting back the changes, the process is just the opposite.
The whole idea is derived from WindowsGate  and  Astr0baby's tutorial

Usage:
PEPassPass.exe : displays the GUI, Select the OS drive and use buttons, Backup, Restore, Patch or UnPatch.
PEPassPass.exe /Source : Extract the embedded source in same folder.

Test:
1.Download latest version and include in your WinPE, BIOS and/or UEFI.
2.Backup /<Windows directory>/system32/msv1_0.dll of a target installation protected by password at logon.
      Backup file: /<Windows directory>/system32/msv1_0.dll.bak
3.Patch it. The Backup file: /<Windows directory>/system32/msv1_0.dll.bak is created if not exist,
      Backup not done.
4.Test whether the patch is working by being able to log on with arbitrary password or without password.
   5.Unpatch it.
6.Test whether unpatch is working by being not able to log in with all but only with the correct password.

Win8.1PE UEFI boot with screen reader help

$

Hi there

I am new here. I am totally blind person, and I need win8PE, which will boot to UEFI mode.
I can succesfuly install any Legacy based system whith win7PE, even win8.1. However, when UEFI comes, I cannot boot WIN7PE64bit to UEFI.

I read on Microsoft technet site, if I wish to avoid computer to boot to legacy mode, I just need to delete Bootmgr from USB drive. I tried that with win7PE, but it wont boot. I then tried to boot regular win8 installation with out bootmgr, and it goes, normaly

My problem is that I need NVDA screen reader, which will boot exclusively to UEFI.

Is this possible to make?
I guess that I can use any PE, just to someone build and install NVDA into.

If someone like to help me, I will apritiate it...

GlassWire Network Security Monitor & Firewall Tool

https://www.glasswire.com/

https://hackerone.com/glasswire

We created GlassWire to help everyday users protect their computers and privacy by monitoring their network activity . The security, data, and privacy of our GlassWire users is our priority. We hope HackerOne will help security researchers report GlassWire desktop software vulnerabilities to us.

Reporting a vulnerability in the GlassWire desktop software

We will try to review all reported vulnerabilities within 10 business days to see if they qualify for HackerOne recognition. Vulnerability reports require a proof of concept and detailed information on how the vulnerability can cause GlassWire to be misused.

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8222652

That is, one of the first things this GlassWire app did is connection to its home server. It openly admitted that itself, but nonetheless, why it did so and what kind of data (~200+ KiB, that's a fair amount that probably exceeds any analytic and update-checking needs) were transferred — I have no idea and I'm too lazy to figure out.

Thanks for your feedback. We'll try to add more transparency. The calling home is for software updates and it shows up on the graph, and GlassWire can even block itself.

Graphicsmode syntax

What's the correct syntax for graphicsmode in latest builds?

README_GRUB4DOS.txt suggests
graphicsmode 0x6A
This results in a tiny little unreadable line on the top of the screen on a typically troublesome Dell Latitude E6400.

From latest stock menu.lst
## set vbe mode

graphicsmode -1 640 480:800
This works fine on that laptop. Now can use longer lines in menu titles, thanks.

How to interpret this syntax "-1 640 480:800" ?

What is real world experience about properly displayed and supported modes?

VSS to capture LIVE logical disk

$

So a little while ago I asked a few questions regarding cloning of a disk whilst it was active;

http://reboot.pro/topic/18763-capture-local-disk/

Some of these solutions were fine, but none were ideal (mostly either cost or image size).

A little more googling into VSS and I found this page;

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/adioltean/archive/2006/09/18/761515.aspx#comments

In essence what you do is instigate a NTBACKUP on your Windows XP box which in turns creates the shadow copy of your logical disk. Then you can use the Dosdev.exe to assign this a drive letter in the command prompt. When this is done you can use imagex to capture the shadow drive.

So far I have been able to create a image and in the process of applying this back to a new disk drive to replicate a bare metal restore.

Has anyone done this process before? Apart from the issues that can happen when writing to the disk whilst doing all this are there any other concerns i should be aware of?

I will let you know if i am able to use the wim i create as a full backup or not.

tftpd64_svc.exe McAfee blocking IRC communication

I am seeing the following in the McAfee AccessProtectionLog.txt file.

8/19/2014    7:14:41 AM    Blocked by port blocking rule     C:\Program Files\Tftpd64_SE\tftpd64_svc.exe    Anti-virus Standard Protection:Prevent IRC communication    10.8.56.133:6666

This happens for ports 6666 to 6669 and IP Addresses.

Is this a valid usage of the program and should I add tftp64_svc.exe to the exception list to allow this communication?

Hi, first of all i'm sorry for my english.

I've one question about testing bootable pendrives with qemu. I've searched a lot in google and all i can find is examples like:

qemu.exe -L . -M pc -localtime -boot c -hda \\.\physicaldrive1

qemu.exe -L . -hda x:

qemu.exe -L . -hda \\.\physicaldrive1

....

but in all the qemu starts an closes in less than a second (don't show the window). Someone knows a working command to test USB drives?

I've tried without any command and qemu starts, then qemu is working...

Thanks!!
